6th FIMBA European Maxibasketball Championship in Zagreb 2010. Zagreb is the official host of the FIMBA European Maxibasketball Championship which is scheduled to take place July 17 - 25, 2010. 

(Zagreb, October 9, 2009.) On July 17, 2010, Zagreb will be host to about 120 teams from 25 countries at the 6th FIMBA European Maxibasketball Championship. During the seven day competition there will be played a total of 300 games. Admition is complementary.

The organizing committee is taking care of all preparations for this big event and is expecting 25 countries, which will increase the number of visitors in Zagreb by 2500. Registration for the upcoming European Championship taking place July 17-25, 2010 in Zagreb started October 1, 2009 at http://www.maxibasketballzagreb2010.com/. The opening ceremony will take place July 17, 2010. 

The hosting basketball club of the 6th European Maxibasketball Championship is the ''Veteran Basketball Club ''Zagreb'', founded April 8, 1997. Club members are famous former Croatian basketball players and  former members of the Croatian national team such as Zoran Čutura, Danko Cvjetičanin, Vladan Alnović and Ivan Sunara. During the World Championship in Ljubljana and the European Championship in Athens, Zagreb announced its candidacy for hosting the World or European Championship at a meeting with the board members of FIMBA. A large number of countries apply to host this famous Maxibasketball Championship. The official announcement of Zagreb as host took place July 29, 2009, in Pesaro, Italy.

FIMBA (INTERNATIONAL MAXIBASKETBALL FEDERATION) is an international federation of veteran basketball.  Maxibasketball was founded in 1969, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It started out as a local basketball organization for veterans and spread throughout the world. The host city of the first European Championship was Riga, Latvija in 2000., where 90 teams from all over Europe gathered. We would like to emphasize that with this European Championship, Zagreb will become a part of an impressive list of host cities such as Riga (Latvia) 2000, Athens (Greece) 2002. Helsinki (Finland) 2004, Hamburg (Germany) 2006 and Pesaro (Italy) 2008.
